Despite dabbling with some other subjects, which is mainly a way of refreshing my visual screen, I find myself “doodling” as it’s been described to me recently, away at abstracts yet again. But I can’t seem to help it. I don’t want to help it. The beginning of new abstracts feel like I’ve been handed lovely little gifts of space to be divvied up, tinkered with and coddled. And once I’ve created the outlines, I simply love the relaxation of simply shading in an area back and forth across the rhythm of tunes overhead. Jazz is generally what I have on. Classical has it’s own shapes and visual vocabulary for me. I’ll have to continue my canvas series on those at some point. That wil have to wait until after the portraits.

I was at the antiques market this past Saturday looking about for some still lifes and came across this wonderful pitcher. Although I’ve been practicing my realism on various still lifes, I would rather do what I would do, which is abstract it! I love this one. I see a series of stills coming on…

This year I’ve been concentrating my art classes on anatomy and the human form. So far it’s been great. Currently I’m in between classes, so my figure studies at home are concentrating on form rather than on a live model. Tonight I decided on a pair of block style figures.

Today we went to The Air Force Cycling Classic in Clarendon, a few blocks up from our place. The rush of power when these guys come whizzing by is amazing! It’s tremendous. So as an ode to all riders racing today and those out and about, I have drawn two riders on the trail.

Fur Bear, the great adventurer has been our Newsroom’s best friend. He’s been accompanying Newsroom Staff as they go on their week long furloughs to exciting far away places. I stumbled across him through a friend and like everyone else who has had the joy of seeing him each week on all his new adventures roaming the U.S., I have become a big fan. Lucky for me, I have him for one night. He heads back in the morning to go on yet another fun filled journey. Aside from his awesome suitcase, he proudly holds his passport, ready at a moment’s notice for his next adventure! Fur Bear deserves a painting… I may just have to do one. But in the mean time, I am honored to post him as today’s drawing and thankful that I had a chance to spend time with him on and enjoy my very own adventure. Thanks!
