Contemplation

You know, I really should consider designing puppets. Seriously. If I had kids I would make the most amazing paper puppets for them and a wonderful little card board stage. Today’s sketch is Contemplation. Enjoyed a lovely, lengthy moment drawing at our local Corner Bakery before moving onto the bench and inhaling this great Fall weather. Fall is always a catalyst for me. I get spirited, risky and begin to soar in all things. It’s a great time for this otherwise quiet soul. I am always apt to try something new with a side of something I shouldn’t, which makes for great strides in art.

Structure

Spent a quick hour today sketching out more structural concepts for the next series of portraits. The figures and faces are made up. I am simply working out some concepts. Once I have real models things to should really work out : )

It felt so nice to get all that graphite on the side of my palm. I know, I need a support. Spent my weekend at the Baltimore Comicon looking at some great work by illustrators. Of course I never did get a moment to draw. That said, I did pick up some lovely pieces.

Have to get back to my real deadlines…

I really love this work. It is embodying where I’m headed creatively. I got a lot of great work done this week. Some weeks are not conducive to being in the zone. This week on the whole has been wonderfully productive.

A lovely drizzly day that even garnered an evening sweat shirt! First sign that fall is approaching. I can’t wait! Spent a nice hour over at our corner bakery working on another portrait idea. Working through numerous options and configurations.

Helena, my fictitious model was conceived while out on the bench today. Another portrait sketch for my upcoming series. I will probably go back into the hair at some point. For now I have to move onto other things. I have a full calendar of projects and little time to do them in!

Practice, Practice, Practice

So, I’ve spent very little time in my creative life copying others work. But the few times I have, I’ve learned a lot. So I broke out a book this morning and attempted to copy and learn. So far, so good.

I’ll be working hard on this for the next six months. Especially in October when I get back to classes.

Loss

Some write songs about loss. I’ve decided to draw mine. I’ve lost a lifetime’s worth in the past eight months but am doing just fine. But one of the things about loss is that it’s worth remembering, feeling, and even drawing. Both the ups and the downs of life are worth their weight in gold. They are what make us not only human, but full of depth.

I for one have chewed on my losses and although bitter sweet they are tremendous for the soul, creativity and for helping you know you’ve given those you’ve lost, their full due.
