Ponyo

Last night, I finally had the opportunity to see the animated motion picture Ponyo.  I was pulled in instantaneously by the most beautiful rip tide I’ve ever visually experienced in animation.  And it’s not like I’m not an animation nut. : )  As an artist I was lured into a home I didn’t expect.  It was like love at first sight and I simply can’t get enough of this beautifully rendered world and still want to break out the colored pencils and the pen and ink wash as we speak.  I’ll have to buy this as it will be inspiring me, probably for the rest of my life.  The story was lovely, the girl actually reminded me of me, but I guess that’s the point. LOL.  Visually, the details and lushness of palette left me  simply whispering, “ah, and ooo.”  I can’t say everyone will love it so.  But my love it for stems from ALL those fleeting moments that appear as simple backgrounds.  For me they were the best part.  Ponyo had added to my inspirations in a art changing way.  I’m still digesting it, rolling it around my noggin.  But it’s in my creative heart and it’s here to stay.  Hat’s off to all the story artists.  Anyway, here is my little sketch for the day.  My little abstract ode to Ponyo and the joy it’s given me.
