The Little Drummer Girl
I managed to finally arrive at the top of the stairs landing of our new Neighbor’s home with all that my little five year old self could muster for the room tour when there it was… radiantly beaming ‘ALL’ that fantastical contraptions do. “What is that?” I asked. “It’s a drum kit” the other little girl replied before moving on down the hall. I of course stood motionless with mouth agape. “What does it do?” “You hit it and it makes noise” came the reply… my mouth somehow dropped further. Emblazoned across the front head was Mickey Mouse’s giant head egging me on to come closer. I finally managed to get behind the kit and immediately turned into Rowan Atkinson : tap, tap, tap.. ooooooooouuuuuu! Top, top, top… oooooooooooo, clink, clink, clink… ahhhhhhhhhhhh! And thus a drummer girl was born. I’ve been there, done that and played about and now my time is coming to do my own music. I move in a few weeks and with that comes the big moment when I get to pull the kit back out of storage where it has silently been waiting for the past five years. I shall be silent no more. : )
